Now if you've been reading this blog you may have thought that I've gotten a bit off track with the title being Wear a Suit for Success. It all depends on what you mean by success. I'll cover some more of the business aspect that some people have probably been wanting to hear about now. When I first started my company, my partner and I thought it would be pretty kickass to dress in suits and impress the ell out of the guy we were meeting. It was a relatively simple project, just making a program to keep track of inventory and do some easy value calculations. We went in with briefcases, suits, sunglasses, and cigars. He and his store were blown away and thought we had come to bust them for something. We instantly gained the upper hand in the business relationship even though we were nearly a decade younger. Suits give you power. In this case it gave me bargaining power, but it can be transferred to nearly any kind of power of a normal person. Do it 80's style. Image is everything. There was nothing in the briefcases, but there didn't need to be.
I totally agree. I don't wear a suit often, but when I do you just feel completely in control of the situation
ReplyDeleteDo we really need briefcases though? lol
ReplyDeletei feel like this information will be quite valuable. you are followed good sir.
ReplyDeleteYes Aster, you do need a briefcase. It is essential.
ReplyDeleteI walked around my campus in a fitted pair of slacks, a grey dress shirt, and a green/grey tie, and you're in a different world. The campus cops gave me the 'bro nod', the hooligans shut up, and the paranoid kids just got out of the way. Good feeling.
